US Adds Over 300,000 Jobs in February

On Friday, March 10, the Bureau of Labor Statistics published a report which included preliminary national unemployment numbers for February. The organization found that the national unemployment rate rose from 3.4 percent in January to 3.6 percent in February. 

As the unemployment rate rose, the nation’s total nonfarm payroll employment increased by  311,000 jobs. The largest gains were seen in the leisure and hospitality (+105,000), retail (+50,000), government (+46,000), professional and business services (+45,000), health care (+44,000), and construction (+24,000) sectors.

Unions file lawsuit challenging Wisconsin Act 10

A group of unions representing public employees including teachers filed a lawsuit on Thursday challenging Wisconsin Act 10, which stripped collective bargaining rights from most public employees in the state.
