Wisconsin to Receive $140 Million Investment Thanks to American Rescue Plan

Governor Tony Evers and Senator Tammy Baldwin recently announced a $140 million investment to expand access to technology and broadband connectivity in the Badger State thanks to the American Rescue Plan.

Out of the $140 million investment, $33 million will be used for digital connectivity technology projects, including grant programs to support nonprofits installing computers and Wi-Fi in targeted multi-dwelling units. 

The remaining $107 million will be used for multi-purpose community facility projects to fund the state’s Flexible Facilities program, a grant program to help communities fund improvements to facilities like libraries and community centers.

A Republican bill would bar local governments from implementing stricter rules than the state already imposes regarding animal welfare, the administration of medications and vaccinations and how animals are used at or after they leave a farm or facility.

The shapes of Wisconsin’s legislative districts for this year’s election are now in the hands of the Wisconsin Supreme Court and its highly paid outside consultants — a decision almost certain to reduce GOP power in the Legislature.
